Why You Need a Cheerleader and a Board of Directors to Your Life
You may be thinking what it means to have a cheerleader and a board of directors for your life.
Ensuring you remain focused on your goals and aware of your shortfalls is the key to a strong personal board of directors.
When I was on the speech team at the University of Northern Iowa, on days of tournaments we always had someone assigned to be the team captain for the weekend. That person had three main jobs:
Ensure the team was prepared.
Lead the morning team round-up and fight song.
Pick the restaurant for the night. (This one is vital!)
We all need that person (or people) in our life to keep us motivated and excited for the opportunities ahead.
Equally important is your “Board of Directors.” This is a small group of people who keeps you focused on your goals. They ask you tough questions. And they tell you the things no one else will.
One person who has fit that bill for me was Vikash. When I was fired from my job back in 2013, we went out to dinner that night and he talked me through my worries and kept me focused on the opportunities ahead.
Your board of directors keeps you focused. They keep you motivated. They ask tough questions.
