What is the 80-20 Rule in Marketing?

Do any Google search to understand this concept and it will spit out that you should spend 20% of your energy on the 80% of results. TL;DR: I don’t disagree with that. But I want to take it a step further …

Team spends far too much time on the minor things. The one-off fixes, or the ideas which solve imaginary problems.

High-performing teams must focus 80% of their energy on the high-quality impact items. It’s like what Google does in how they allocate their time, requiring a small investment in fun projects that have potential.

It is the same concept here. You have to focus your energy where it will have measurable and immediate impact. The rest of the time, the leader needs to be finding and cultivating those opportunities where we can invest in the 20% in increments.

If all you do is fix the small issues or make the small projects a reality in lieu of the larger things, you will only continue to fall farther behind.
