Iowa’s prisons are overcrowded. Not only is that bad for inmates, it is expensive. And once people convicted of crimes are released, our government needs to support their re-integration and ensure they have every opportunity to become strong members of our communities. This will require bipartisan work to continue to modernize our justice system through the usage of drug courts, Veterans courts, adjusting mandatory minimums, and enacting sensible “Ban the Box” legislation.

 FROM WHERE I STAND:

While reducing the prison population is a priority, our focus must also be on support those who have served their debt to society and how we as a community can support and lift all people up.

FROM WHERE I STAND:

Our work must be to ensure everyone has a fair chance and reducing blind employment rejections is one way to strengthen our families and our communities.

FROM WHERE I STAND:

This isn’t a cost-saving measure; this will improve the lives of all Iowans to have reduced sentences for nonviolent offenders and citizens back in their communities.
