A great manager listens. LISTENS!
My favorite television show of all time, The West Wing, brings this point to task in the episode, “The Fall’s Gonna Kill You.”
The press secretary — someone who would be good with listening and great with smart and thought-out answers — was asked if she knew what time it was by the White House counsel. She does not hesitate to answer.
She did not respond with a “yes” or a “no.” She responded with the time.
But that was not what was asked of her. She was asked if she knew what time it was.
