Last week I attended a forum hosted by The Des Moines Register at Des Moines University which was attended by many of the candidates running for Governor of Iowa.
It was an interesting display of passion amongst all the candidates; and surprising agreement across party lines. It seemed everyone could agree that Iowa has a mental health crisis.
There were obvious points of disagreement but we have to do better by all our citizens.
Iowans deserve access -- at all ages -- to mental health services.
Iowans deserve a criminal justice system that isn't used as a treatment center.
Iowans deserve a government that supports the needs of the local communities.
We have a lot of work to do, but with sincere debate and discussion, we can find a solution that supports everyone, of all ages, across the state.
