Think you don’t have the time of day to get your goals done? Think again. You do! How do I know this? Because I am currently changing my daily schedule to make room for more down time. Yes. You heard that right: More down time.

IMPORTANCE
I know what is important in my life, but I also have a lot of things that I enjoy doing and things I want to take a run at. For instance, I’d love to be able to write another book, but not sure I have the time for that. But as I near the end of the year, I always take the time to reflect on what the year has been and what I want the next year to be. You should too.

CHOICE
When you say yes to something, you also say no to something. And when you say no to something, you are given the opportunity to say yes to something. But the key point in this bullet point is you. You make all those choices. Sometimes they will be hard and sometimes they will be easy. But they are yours and when you know what is important in your life, those choices become easier.

OWN IT
Do not let anyone intrude on your time. It is yours and you must own it. It is an immovable “meeting.” Trust me. You will see success quickly.

It’s tough out there to find success. You might as well be on your own team to make it more likely that you will find success!

What are your tips?

Be civil to all people because there is a little bit of God in all.

Richard’s Thoughts…
This past week has been quite the emotional roller-coaster, and I’m going to keep this short. I live in New York City and last week Hurricane Sandy made a swift left turn in the ocean and aimed right at us. She hit and hit hard.

But, I am okay. Luckily nothing bad happened to me or my home, but a lot of the city and New Jersey did not get so lucky. I have learned a lesson again that I need to love each and every day.

And I was reminded that there is love and kindness in us all. I saw it in complete strangers helping each other. And in this place where everyone is out for themselves, for this week, we were there for each other. Be there for others in your life. Show love and kindness each and every day.

Be ‘American’ Exceptional

Richard Dedor for MayorIt’s Election Day here in the United States and I thought this would be the perfect time to say that we as a people are exceptional. Sure, there is always room for improvement (that’s for another post), but we are exceptional.

Do I think we are the greatest nation on Earth? Irrelevant.

I do know that we create great things like medicine and cures, great technology, great writers and artists and have lead the world in times of need.

But we have fallen. Our greed has hindered our own ability to help ourselves, and as a result, the world. This isn’t a post about posting blame. It is a post about reclaiming who we are. No matter who wins tonight in your local race, your governor’s race, or the race for the White House, we are all Americans and it is on that point we must all come together.

We are exceptional. We can create great things. We can lead the world in medicine, in technology, in creativity and in our own economy. The work starts now.

Dedor’s Election 2012 Thoughts

It’s the time of year again and with my history in politics, including a run for office a decade ago, I thought I should offer my insights into the campaigns which are finally coming to an end:
