The Friendly Weekend

Today kicks off what I hope will be a tradition for myself and my friends: A golf weekend. Okay, it’s not as glamorous as it sounds, but I’m headed to Des Moines, Iowa, this morning to have lunch with two of my good friends from college who recently got married. Then I’ll head over to one of my best friend’s house and spend the afternoon with him and his baby girl. We’ll probably play tennis and just relax like we always do.

On Saturday, myself and three of my friends from high school and college will be meeting for a round of golf and then a BBQ evening celebration.

I’ve been looking forward to his weekend for a lot of reasons. I won’t be working and it’s really my last weekend off from commitments until after Labor Day but I’m more looking forward to this trip because I love my friends and having the freedom and ability to take a weekend and re-connect is invaluable.

The energy I’m going to come away with will be like a B-12 shot! My hope is that every year we can all try to meet up somewhere and play a round of golf and hang out. The topics of conversation will change over the years, but I connected with these people at key moments in my life and I became the Richard we all know today with these friends.

It’s funny that this trip is happening now, because a fellow blogger, Elizabeth (from Corporate Idealist) recently wrote about a similar trip she took. I hope you can consider setting up a trip like this with some of your old friends. You’ll be glad you did.
